How much gravel do I need?
Gravel quantity depends on the area you are covering, the finished depth, and the density of the material being delivered.
Example
A 20-by-10-foot area at 3 inches deep contains about 50 cubic feet of material. Divide by 27 and that is about 1.85 cubic yards. To estimate tons, multiply cubic yards by the tons-per-yard value for the specific gravel.
Why supplier information matters
- Different stone sizes and materials have different densities.
- Compaction and settling can affect the final depth.
- Irregular areas should be divided into smaller measurable sections.
- Confirm delivery minimums and how the supplier rounds quantities.
