Estimate the number of drywall sheets needed for the walls of a rectangular room, including openings and a waste allowance.
How the estimate works
The calculator finds total wall area from the room perimeter and wall height, subtracts doors and windows, adds your selected waste allowance, then divides by the coverage of the sheet size you choose.
Common sheet sizes
- 4 × 8 ft = 32 sq ft
- 4 × 10 ft = 40 sq ft
- 4 × 12 ft = 48 sq ft
Planning tips
Sheet layout matters. Longer sheets can reduce seams but may be harder to move and install. Ceilings, closets, soffits, specialty moisture-resistant panels, and unusual wall shapes should be estimated separately.
